Steps to apply for FAFSA

You can use financial aid to pay for the academic year, summer term, or study abroad. Use school code 001811.

1. Check your eligibility

Most students are encouraged to submit a FAFSA as it may be a requirement to receive certain financial aid and scholarships. If you’re an international student or pursuing a certificate rather than a degree, you should verify that you’re eligible.

2. Gather necessary documents and info for FAFSA

You'll need to fill out the FAFSA to be considered for financial aid. Learn how to fill it out and get help with common questions.

File the FAFSA

3. Get help with your FAFSA

The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is here to assist you if you need help or have any questions about filing your FAFSA.

4. Additional steps for transfer, Ivy Tech, and non-degree students

Find out what else you need to do if you are taking classes at Ivy Tech and IU East, if you are applying to IU East as a transfer student, or if you are working toward a program as a nondegree student.

5. Verify your info, accept your aid

Depending on the aid you are offered, there is plenty to do after you apply–from formally accepting what you need to, signing loan documents, or completing your Title IV authorization.

Steps Complete

Most types of aid award by IU East are need-based and calculated by subtracting your Student Aid Index number from your cost of attendance. Keep in mind that there’s no guarantee you’ll receive the whole amount you need to cover all of your expenses.
