The research is clear; real world experiences are invaluable in preparing students for their futures. With that in mind, IU East High School connects students to their communities and futures through a series of work-based learning opportunities. In their sophomore year, students learn about non-profit management and are ultimately connected to local non-profit organizations where they will work collaboratively to solve real world problems they face. In their junior year, students benefit from learning the basics of business and complete a series of experiences in a local business. By senior year, students are challenged to design and implement their own passion project, taking the skills they have learned through their prior experiences and matching them to their interests to pursue a project of their own design while supported by a mentor. Along the way, students will earn badges reflecting their mastery of key college and career readiness competencies as outlined by NACE.
