The Transition to Teaching (T2T) program at Indiana University East is a fully accredited, alternative teacher licensure pathway designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-education field and want to become licensed teachers in Indiana. The program is approved by the Indiana Department of Education and offers preparation in Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education licensure areas. The program is intended for career changers and working professionals who want a faster, more flexible route into teaching without completing a second bachelor’s degree.

Elementary T2T Program

This two-year program meets two evenings per week and leads to Indiana licensure for grades K–6. Participants receive comprehensive training in the Science of Reading and are eligible to earn the Early Childhood Reading endorsement.

Secondary T2T Program

This one-year program begins in the summer and includes one required week of face-to-face cohort building and classroom experience in July. Courses are held in person, with classes meeting one to two evenings per week and one full-day workshop Friday each month during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Participants earn Indiana licensure for grades 5–12 in their chosen content area. Candidates who did not graduate with a degree in the subject they wish to teach must submit a passing Praxis score in the appropriate content area.

Special Education T2T Program

This is a two-year program designed to prepare candidates for Indiana licensure in K–12 Mild Intervention. The first year is primarily online and focuses on foundational learning content, with one in-person evening course. During the second year, participants meet in person one to two evenings per week and attend one full-day Friday workshop each month during the Fall and Spring semesters.
