Do I need to have a bachelor's degree to be admitted to the MSN degree?
Yes, you must hold a bachelor's degree in nursing and be a registered nurse (RN) to be admitted.
Is the program online?
Yes, all courses are offered mainly online through a collaborative agreement with IU regional nursing campuses of SB, SE, and NW. There can be up to 4 synchronous Zoom sessions each semester. These occur on select Thursdays from 10:00 AM-12:00 EST. There are four lab experiences that will require onsite attendance at your campus of enrollment location. Clinical or practicum hours are in person at assigned health care organizations.
Do I need prior nursing experience to start the MSN?
For the FNP track, two years of relevant full-time clinical practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) and currently working as an RN is preferred. For the education or administration track, one year of clinical experience as an RN is preferred.
How much time is required of the clinical courses?
Students must complete 750 hours of direct patient care in the FNP track. Administration and Education students complete 300 practicum hours.
Do you help us find clinical placements?
Yes, we assist all students with clinical or practicum placements. Students can suggest certain clinical sites if we have or can establish a clinical contract. We do ask students to complete clinical placement paperwork to be considered at different area health systems.
What tracks are in this program?
Students are required to choose one of three tracks: administration, education, or Family Nurse Practitioner.
How many credits do I need to graduate?
The Administration and Education tracks are 37 credit hours. The FNP is 46 credit hours.
