March Madness in the Library!

March Madness in the Library!

March Madness is coming! March Madness is coming! March Madness is coming!  If you are as excited by college athletics as I am then you must be amped up for the start of March Madness, also known as the NCAA College Basketball Championship Tournament.  This is a chance for us to see the best in college sports.  Heartache, excitement, controversy, competitiveness, and all the things we love about collegiate competition are embodied in the tournament.   If watching the games aren’t enough for you, stop by the library and check out some of these basketball and tournament related tools and resources.

If you are interested in researching past tournaments some of the best resources are available in one of the library’s many databases dedicated to newspapers.  Take a peek at the Historical New York Times to see the front page after Syracuse University won the tournament in 2004.  Not really a New York Times person?  That’s ok.  We also have Newspaper Source and News & Newspapers which cover newspapers all over the country.  And if local IU East pride is more to your tastes, you can follow Red Wolves news at our own online archive.

We also have some e-books about basketball:

O God of players: the story of the Immaculata Mighty Macs

The baffled parent’s guide to great basketball plays

Outside the limelight: basketball in the Ivy League

One fantastic ride: the inside story of Carolina basketball’s 2009 championship season

Maybe you have a young son, daughter, brother or sister who loves sports.  Well the IU East Campus library has several children’s books related to those subjects in our Juvenile collection.  Come in and checkout some books including Basketball Bats, Hot Shot, Game and many more.  Just ask at the front desk for help.

March is the month of many basketball tournaments.  This year our very own IU East Red Wolves have worked hard and earned the chance to play in the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National championship.  See how they did at http://www.iueredwolves.com/index.php.  And if you are looking for more information about the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship Tournament, it can be found at the official website, http://www.ncaa.com/march-madness.
