Why E-Books are Right for You!

Why E-Books are Right for You!

E-books are growing more and more popular in academic and public libraries, and for good reasons!  Here at IU East, there are many benefits for patrons using electronic books.

   1. E-books are easily accessible from the comfort of your own home, day or night.

Many IU East students do not live near campus.  Some students are taking online courses and do not often come to campus.  But even online courses require research papers!  With e-books, you do not have to stop by the library to gain access to a plethora of books.  Just search our catalog at http://iucat.iu.edu or directly search one of our e-book vendors (find a list of vendors here: http://www.iue.edu/library/books/ebooks.php).

   2. E-books do not accrue overdue fees.

Are you notoriously bad at remembering due dates for your library materials?  Do you ever have to dig under your car seats to find your overdue books?  You don’t have to worry about that with e-books.  You won’t accrue overdue fees, and you won’t be charged for replacement of the books.

   3. And my favorite perk: e-books are searchable by text.

Do you ever read a compelling argument in a book, but when you go to cite it, you forget what page the information was on?  Or perhaps you just need clarification on a term but don’t know where to find it?  With our e-books, you can search the text to find words or phrases in the book.

In E-brary, use the search box to the right of the book to search the text.  Then, use the forward and backward arrows to find different instances of the term throughout the text.

In E-books by EBSCO, click the magnifying glass option to the right of the screen to bring up the search box.  Search for your term or phrase using the search box at the top of the page, and click on the results to work your way through the text.
