New Year, New You: Introducing Nexis Uni and a few IUCat Updates

Starting this semester, there are a few changes that took place within the library online catalog, IUCAT.

First, IUCAT Classic has officially retired and can no longer be accessed. The IU Libraries have been working for several years to update and make improvements to the online catalog, IUCAT. While all this has been happening, IUCAT Classic was kept around as a way to search for items, specifically Class Reserves, while improvements and changes were made to the new and improved IUCAT that is now in place. Now that the current IUCAT has all the necessary features ready and everything is working smoothly, IUCAT Classic retired on December 17, 2017. Most users may not have noticed a difference or may not have been aware of IUCAT Classic, but for students, faculty, and staff who relied on it in the past, who may have a link to the library catalog that no longer works, it is time to check out the new IUCAT at https://iucat.iu.edu.

Another big change that has started this semester is that library patrons can no longer request books from IUPUI Ft. Wayne via Request Delivery. Starting in the summer of 2017, IUPUI Ft. Wayne is realigning their campus structure, including the library, will now be Purdue University Ft. Wayne: https://news.iu.edu/stories/2017/06/iu/releases/16-ipfw-realignment-agreements.html

Books from the Ft. Wayne campus may still show up in IUCAT, but the IU Libraries is in the process of transitioning those materials out of the catalog. Please be advised that when searching the entire IUCAT system a book may not be available if the only campus shown to own it is the IUPUI Ft. Wayne campus. For more information on this change, check out the article about it at https://libraries.indiana.edu/changes-iucat-request-delivery-ipfw-2017.

Our online catalog isn’t the only one to have a major change. The legal and news database LexisNexis has a new name and a new, improved look. It is now called Nexis Uni and its new interface is more user-friendly. Nexis Uni features more than 15,000 news, business and legal sources from LexisNexis—including U.S. Supreme Court decisions dating back to 1790. You can find Nexis Uni easily in our A-Z Resource list at https://iue.libguides.com/A-ZList/N

If you have questions about any of these changes or with using Nexis Uni or IUCat, please contact us at iueref@iue.edu.
