Throughout Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 IU Oral History Assistant Ashley Clayton has been interviewing IU East alumni, staff and faculty, as part of the IU Bicentennial project. Clayton, a senior History major, has completed 28 interviews, and is also transcribing them so the original audio will be accessible online.
In preparation for celebrating 200 years of Indiana University in 2020 and IU East’s 50th anniversary in 2021, Clayton has talked with individuals affiliated with IU East from the 1970s to today. They represent varied majors and departments and each interview provides a glimpse into the ways IU has impacted each person.
Gloria Dixon is an Assistant professor at IU East, in the School of Nursing. She is from Whitesburg Kentucky and a first generation college student. Working within the nursing field was something that Gloria knew she always wanted to do and IU East allowed her to follow her dreams.
TJ Rivard is an IU alumni, IU East English Professor, and Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at IU East. TJ is from Oshkosh Wisconsin and the son of a World War II veteran. Throughout TJ’s career as an IU East Professor he enjoyed teaching many different courses, but his favorites were courses that dealt with writing fiction.
Jerri Libert is an IUE alumni, staff, and faculty member. She graduated with her Bachelors degree from IU East in 1997 with a 3.91 GPA. Jerri is a first generation college student and decided to go back to college at IU East because she wanted to make sure that she could answer all the questions that her Piano class had for her.
Interviews can be conducted in person or via phone. The IU Bicentennial team continues to collect more stories, representing varied aspects of Indiana University throughout the years.
