“Indiana University East is an inclusive and welcoming campus that recognizes, celebrates and embraces differences and commonalities.” This first sentence from the Indiana University East Diversity Mission Statement is a guiding principle for the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Appointed by IU East Chancellor Kathy Cruz-Uribe, members of the DI Committee can provide program support, facilitate program planning, and promote opportunities for diversity education of students, faculty, and staff.
There are a variety of curricular and co-curricular happenings on campus throughout the Spring semester. The Diversity and Inclusion resource guide highlights events ranging from cultural food days and Black History month films, to several LGBTQ programs and an Appalachian poet and woodworker. Meetings of the DI Committee are open and we truly want participation by a variety of individuals, from an intersectionality of identities. The next meeting is February 21 and more information is posted here.
Also in Spring 2019 we are working on implementation of a new Diversity Plan that includes six priority areas. If you want to be involved and share your ideas to help enhance and enrich diversity at IU East, we value your input. Students, faculty, staff…please join us! Contact interim Chief Diversity Officer Frances Yates and let us know the priority working group that interests you.
If you’d like to connect with committee members, they are: Tracy Amyx, Sheila Armstead, Felix Burgos, Chancellor Cruz-Uribe, John Dalton, Evelyn Gordon, Ramesh Karki, Ann Kim, KT Lowe, EVCAA Michelle Malott, Bob Mulligan, Carrie Reisner, Julee Rosser, Cal Simpson, and Taylor Webster.
