Money Smart Week, a public awareness campaign for personal financial literacy, has become completely virtual this year. The official program features webinars targeted towards the economic needs of those hit hardest by the last year. Some of these are particularly useful for colleges, such as the Understanding the Basics of Federal Student Loans session – which also includes a toolkit of helpful links and information.
The library offers lots of vetted resources to help anyone make prudent financial decisions, too, in a variety of formats. These range from the broad and global issues – covered by ebooks like Understanding the World Economy by Tony Cleaver, Fixing Global Finance by Martin Wolf, or Understanding the Process of Economic Change by Douglass North – to household-level economics.
Our video database, AVON, offers many finance-related titles, including the Student Success Series. These videos feature topics like Understanding Budgets, Understanding Student Loans, and Understanding Credit. Each of them are under 20 minutes long, making them great, concise starting points.
More scholarly depth can be found in our databases, like Business Source Complete or ABI Inform, or among our ebooks in titles like Personal Finance: An Encyclopedia of Modern Money Management by Barbara Friedberg, There’s More to Financial Planning Than Financial Planning by Brian Zeek, The Economics of Consumer Credit by Giuseppe Bertola, Personal Finance Simplified: The Step-by-Step Guide for Smart Money Management, or, if you need to dig yourself out of a hole, Credit Repair: Make a Plan, Improve Your Credit, Avoid Scams by Amy Loftsgordon.
Many resources are also geared specifically to a student’s needs, including books like The Financial Rules for New College Graduates by Michael Taylor and Mastery of Money for Students by Adam Carroll.
For advanced money managers, databases like Mergent Online and MarketLine Advantage offer company financials and investment data for doing your own market research.
