Preservation Week 2021

This week, we celebrate Preservation Week to recognize the billions (at least 4.8 billion!) of items sitting in special collections, libraries, archives, and museums that require preservation and to acknowledge the challenges that these institutions face to reduce the damage to these items and to make them stable enough for use and accessible to the public.[1] This is also a week to highlight that not only do museums and libraries hold valuable collections that are culturally and historically significant, but that there are unaccounted collections and items that are held by individuals, families, and communities; collections that contain books, manuscripts, audiovisual materials, physical objects (textiles, furniture, art, etc.), and prints and drawings.   The theme for Preservation Week 2021 is “Preserving … Continued

This global event draws attention to the devastating effects humans are causing to the planet and how we can take a stand to heal our planet. Money and Smart Choices

Money Smart Week, a public awareness campaign for personal financial literacy, has become completely virtual this year.  The official program features webinars targeted towards the economic needs of those hit hardest by the last year.  Some of these are particularly useful for colleges, such as the Understanding the Basics of Federal Student Loans session – which also includes a toolkit of helpful links and information.  The library offers lots of vetted resources to help anyone make prudent financial decisions, too, in a variety of formats.  These range from the broad and global issues – covered by ebooks like Understanding the World Economy by Tony Cleaver, Fixing Global Finance by Martin Wolf, or Understanding the Process of Economic Change by Douglass … Continued
