One tool is IUScholarWorks (IUSW), the Indiana University Libraries Institutional Repository (IR) that archives and provides online access to scholarly communication objects. Lora Baldwin was a student at IU East in 1980, she became a librarian on campus in 1985, and we became friends in 1987. As a member of the faculty since 1985, Lora was pragmatic, smart, just, and caring. Through committee work, community service, and her role as a librarian, Lora met many people and many may remember her smile and friendly demeanor. Chances are good that if you were a student at IU East from 1985 to 1994, you were instructed by Lora on how to use the library. The Women of IU Conference offered an opportunity to learn, share, and network. The goal for equality of males and females necessitates social, legal, and practical changes. The recent #METOO movement offers a renewed approach for improvement, for conversations, for expressions of pent-up feelings of frustration at the still unequal world. The Women of IU Conference offered a way to rethink and consider new avenues of action, good ideas for mentoring relationships, wise women’s words, and positive reinforcement. The conference keynote speakers and break-out sessions online presentations and messages provide access to a broader audience to experience the shared ideas. Perhaps your class has met in the Blakey Research Room in the Library. Or, you’ve noticed the sign there and wondered “who is George Blakey and why was this room named after him?” Professor George Blakey provided many strengths to the IU East community. He helped IU East remain a focus of higher education in this area of Indiana. His teaching charisma brought students and learners to IU East. He was dedicated to the campus and the Richmond area. Professor Blakey encouraged and supported the IU East Library and Archives through development and committee work.
