New Digitized Collections and Archival Highlights

The Athletics Collection, The Joe Longstreth Radio Show, and the story of the Transgender Singing Voice Conference The IU East Campus Library has two very different, but incredibly interesting collections to highlights. One is new and one is rediscovered, and we also have a new oral history in the LGBTQ+ collection. All these audiovisual collections are accessible in Media Collections Online (MCO). Academic Video Online: Selected Films, from Counseling to Continents Bicycle Tours

IU East subscribes to Academic Video Online and through the “Build by Choice” program we gain perpetual ownership to the titles most used during the previous year. Selections include group psychotherapy for survivors of sexual abuse, legal interviewing, and the five-year journey of a Swiss endurance athlete. In this blog we highlight several interesting offerings. Falsettos was nominated for five 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. It is a humorous, yet poignant look at a modern family, revolving around the life of a gay man, his wife, his lover, his son, their psychiatrist, and the lesbians next door. 244 years ago, on Christmas Day of 1776, General George Washington led a force across the Delaware River to attack a Hessian outpost in Trenton. His army, which up until then had lost battle after battle, was near the point of dissolution – the enlistments for most of the men would expire at the end of the year, extinguishing the American ability to field an army. The Battle of Trenton was one of the most unexpected, as well as complete, victories American forces had achieved, and it reinvigorated the flagging army at the point when the fragile nation was closest to disintegration. November is Native American Heritage Month – an opportunity to pay tribute to the traditions and ancestry of the tribes and people groups who originally occupied this continent. It is an opportunity to learn and to foster dialogue. Library resources are among the most vetted and authoritative available. One of the best databases is American Indian History Online, which features primary sources, maps, documentary videos, and other media. It is searchable by region, tribe, person, event, or topic. Of special note are sections on influential court cases and legislative history. International Education Week (Nov. 16-20, 2020) is a joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education designed to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. In honor of International Education Week, the IU East Library wants to highlight some of the databases available that support study abroad programs, international exchange, and cross cultural research. We have databases that focus specifically on a particular country or on travel and culture in general and they are organized as such below.
