“Once in a while it is good to look back and see just how long is the road we have already traveled.” ~ Dr. Frederick Grohsmeyer (November 5, 1973) On Saturday, July 21, 2012 IU East lost its first director, Dr. Frederick Grohsmeyer, a man who helped to establish Indiana University East. Thanks to the memories of those who knew Dr. Grohsmeyer and to records documenting the influential life he led, his memory will not fade. Fortunately we have some of those records in the Indiana University East Archives. Indiana University East began as the Eastern Indiana Center located at Earlham College. ALA Annual Alerts Librarians to Ideas and Innovations

Every June the American Library Association holds their Annual Conference; this year I had the opportunity of attending it, in Anaheim, CA, for the first time. The American Library Association is a professional organization for all disciplines of librarians to receive support for their positions in the form of networking, resources, and professional development opportunities, including Annual, to “enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.” There really is something for every type of librarian, from academic to public from private to prison. I attended a variety of sessions to match the variety of job duties and interests I have, including but not limited to Innovative Outreach, Working with Grants, Civic Engagement, and Promotional Videos. Helping Girls at Girls Inc

This summer has brought a lot of changes for me. It’s my first summer of college, I will be turning 20 and this is also my first summer that I have been employed. I feel like one of the luckiest girls this summer to be employed at Richmond’s own Girls Inc. The experiences that I have had at Girls Inc. have been nothing but positive. I want to take the time now to share some of these great experiences. For those who don’t know Girls Inc. is a year-long facility that helps develop many of the girls in this community.
