To celebrate Campus Sustainability Month, with the goal of raising the visibility and deepening engagement with sustainability on college campuses, the IU East Campus Library is highlighting equitable access to educational resources. Featured here are Open Access resources, supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal #4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Open Access provides free online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as needed. International Open Access Week is October 24-30th and the theme for 2022 is Open for Climate Justice. Media Literacy Week

Media Literacy Week, hosted by National Association for Media Literacy Education, will be held from Monday, October 24 to Friday, October 28.  Now in its eighth year, Media Literacy Week is intended to promote the important role of media literacy in education today. To celebrate, IU East will be hosting a panel discussion on Thursday, October 27, at 2:00 in Hayes 142 (in the library.)  In addition to IU East, multiple IU campuses are hosting Media Literacy Week events, including IUPUI and IUPUC, and most of these other events are available on Zoom.  The IU East panel discussion will focus on voting and will feature faculty members Andrea Quenette, E. Libraries advocate for the freedom to access and read any book a reader might want. To bring attention to the insidious problem of censorship and encroachment on the First Amendment, libraries all over the country celebrate Banned Books Week.  Launched by the American Library Association in 1982, the ALA tabulates reports of challenges to books held in library collections, as well as any times those challenges resulted in restricting access to a book or even, in some cases, of completely withdrawing it from a collection.  The resulting list of the top ten most-challenged books is updated and publicized every year. Films can be a useful supplemental resource for many lessons or courses. The IU East Campus Library continuously works to provide easy, comprehensive access to streaming films for educational purposes. Here is a list of places to search and access a film or documentary for courses as well as some advice on sharing and maintaining access to these films. Library Licensed Content AVON (Academic Video Online) is a multidisciplinary collection of videos that can meet a variety of curricular needs, such as counseling and therapy, dance, music, theatre, ethnographic studies, environmental studies, nursing, and education.
