International Resources for International Education Week

International Education Week (Nov. 16-20, 2020) is a joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education designed to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. In honor of International Education Week, the IU East Library wants to highlight some of the databases available that support study abroad programs, international exchange, and cross cultural research. We have databases that focus specifically on a particular country or on travel and culture in general and they are organized as such below. With over nine million people infected and 231,988 dead, novel coronavirus 2019, abbreviated as COVID-19, is one of the deadliest diseases that the US has ever encountered. The US has experienced almost 300,000 more unanticipated deaths this year than usual, with 200,000 of those deaths due to COVID-19. It is imperative that all of us have the information we need to get tested in a timely fashion and to continue to work to mitigate our risk of catching and spreading this disease. Indiana offers free COVID-19 testing at 273 locations throughout the state, with five located in Wayne County. This time in the Fall semester brings cool evenings, colorful falling leaves … and the opportunity to explore academic resources you may find useful for your class projects or personal interests. Your Campus Library team continually updates the IU East LGBTQ resource guide, and in the Fall we feature National Coming Out Day, as well as other celebrations and events. Members of the LBGTQ+ community are supported at IU East through the new affinity group, “LGBTQ+ Connections.” In the resource guide you will find information relevant to youth, educators, and families, along with campus and community information about organizations and open access material. Media literacy is a vital skill, allowing people to analyze and understand how messages, particularly those designed to persuade (whether presented anywhere from television news programs to Facebook advertisements), are crafted and how they exert their influence. A person who is able to recognize and mitigate the hidden influence of others is freer and more able to form reasoned opinions. Media literacy also helps you responsibly frame your own messages, communicating in the clearest way possible and provoking thought without undue manipulation.
