Celebrate Black History Month by remembering and reflecting on the many people and groups who participated in the fight for civil rights. These Black Archives and Special Collections offer a range of materials from primary source documents to newspaper archives and podcasts. The New York Public Radio Archives & Preservation celebrates Black History Month by assembling a collection of their leading preservation work, series, and sonic artifacts focusing on African American history. Electronic records are a major part of our personal and professional lives, from the creative and academic work we publish online via journals, blogs, and social media platforms to the meeting minutes and published policies of individual groups, committees, and organizations. The majority of work is now online and we need to act in order to preserve it, the same as for physical materials. There is even an official day to recognize the importance of electronic records – Electronic Records Day, celebrated annually in October. This is a day dedicated to raising awareness among the general public, government agencies, and public institutions on the importance of preserving electronic records. IU East LGBTQ+ Archive Just in time for Pride Month, we added several new items to the IU East LGBTQ+ Collection. Current Visiting Assistant Professor of Music, Dr. Nathan Froebe, recently premiered his new song cycle titled “In Paths Untrodden” on Facebook Live. This song cycle consists of ten poems by Walt Whitman and depicts the navigation of an LGBTQ+ relationship in the messy aftermath of romantic separation. Dr. Froebe composed this music over the last eight years, pulling from his own personal experience, and wrote the voice parts for two ungendered voices. This week, we celebrate Preservation Week to recognize the billions (at least 4.8 billion!) of items sitting in special collections, libraries, archives, and museums that require preservation and to acknowledge the challenges that these institutions face to reduce the damage to these items and to make them stable enough for use and accessible to the public.[1] This is also a week to highlight that not only do museums and libraries hold valuable collections that are culturally and historically significant, but that there are unaccounted collections and items that are held by individuals, families, and communities; collections that contain books, manuscripts, audiovisual materials, physical objects (textiles, furniture, art, etc.), and prints and drawings.   The theme for Preservation Week 2021 is “Preserving … Continued
