Today, in the summer, the halls of IU East are unnaturally quiet without students.  Physical Plant has just waxed the floors, and the whole place seems to glow.  The grounds outside are lush and green and verdant.  In six months’ time, though, the weather will be cold and the trees bereft of leaves.  The floors will be scuffed and stained with salt.  In 1972, the land was a construction zone; with Whitewater Hall just beginning to be erected.  It was again in 2015, as work began on the Student Events and Activities Center.  A few centuries’ ago, Miami Indian explorers ranged north from the Whitewater River, seeking game here, surrounded only by trees and grass.  Things change, and a place … Continued

The April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse has generated a lot of interest in all aspects of Space. The IU East Campus Library has created a resource guide featuring the IU East interactive Solar Walk, numerous facts about the Solar System, and books and activities for youth and adults to learn together. Additionally, we received funding from the Indiana University Foundation that enabled us to create a customized activity book. It is available for 100 individuals who participate in the Solar Walk at IU East, in Whitewater Hall on April 4th or 5th. Reservations are needed to ensure each tour group is not too large. International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is March 31st, 2020. It is a day to celebrate transgender people, their contributions to society, as well as raise awareness of the discrimination they face worldwide. The Indiana University East Campus Library is a dedicated Safe Space and our librarians and staff participate in regular training and professional development, such as Safe Zone, to better serve those members of the community who identify as LGBTQ+. This past month, IU East librarians Beth South and KT Lowe had the opportunity to attend the National Association of Social Workers 3rd Annual Conference on Serving Sexual & Gender Minority (GSM) populations.
