University Presses and eBooks

A university press publishes books that have been written and reviewed by scholars in their fields. IU East Campus Library has access to more than 300,000 eBooks from various databases. They are free to access for anyone with IU East log-in credentials. The Oxford Scholarship Online (OSO) database provides access to more than 20,000 academic works from the Oxford University Press. OSO covers subjects from humanities and social sciences to medicine and law. Within the past few days, OSO has added over 100 new titles to their collection, covering a diverse range of topics from 19th century Dutch Protestant theology and Baroque violins to questions about communication and censorship and how mental disorders affect one’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. New Year, New You: Introducing Nexis Uni and a few IUCat Updates

Starting this semester, there are a few changes that took place within the library online catalog, IUCAT. First, IUCAT Classic has officially retired and can no longer be accessed. The IU Libraries have been working for several years to update and make improvements to the online catalog, IUCAT. While all this has been happening, IUCAT Classic was kept around as a way to search for items, specifically Class Reserves, while improvements and changes were made to the new and improved IUCAT that is now in place. Catalog Facelift

Long gone are the days of card-based catalogs, but still, the library’s online catalog continues to improve.  You may have tried the new version of IUCAT – the search box on our home page uses it – but now the bugs are worked out and it is our official index for books, ebooks, videos, reserves, and more.  It’s still the same catalog, though, and you can do all the same things – it’s just a new, cleaner interface.  You can still look for books and videos, renew your checkouts, request items from other IU campuses, and will receive email warnings before your checkouts come due.  But using it is easier than ever.   You can use it to search IU … Continued
