On August 21, 2017 the Moon’s shape will block up to 90% of the Sun’s rays in the 47374 zip code area. From about 12:50 to 4:00 pm ET the partial Eclipse will be visible on the IUE Campus. The ultimate Partial ECLIPSE will occur about 2:25 pm. We will witness about 90% of an ECLIPSE. How do we know that? Check out the many resources NASA provides, highlighted in the Campus Library ECLIPSE 2017 LibGuide that provides shortcuts to a treasure trove of information and activities. In Indiana the ECLIPSE will not reach Totality (where the sky is completely dark); so Hoosiers should view the ECLIPSE through safe solar glasses or indirect viewing methods, such as a Pin-Hole Projector. … Continued

Doing good research can be complicated. We’re all used to simplified interfaces – using things like Google online, and things like microwaves in our kitchens. But sometimes using a microwave isn’t enough. You need to learn how to use the real stove. And for that, obviously, you’d read the manual, or have someone show you how. The same is true in the library. You’re not born knowing how to do great research; it’s something everyone has to learn. This year, the IU East community is reading Wine to Water for the One Book, Many Voices program (we have several copies at the library available for checkout – ask at the front desk).  It is the story of Doc Hendley, a North Carolina bartender who decided to go to Darfur to help the people get access to clean water.  There, he repaired broken wells, had water trucked to refugee camps, distributed chlorine tablets for purifying contaminated water, and more, all while navigating the war and ethnic cleansing between the Janjaweed and the Sudanese Liberation Army in one of the most dangerous places in the world. September 15 – October 15, 2012 *Art Exhibits * Service Learning * Film * Poetry * Visiting Authors* National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed in America each year, from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. This observation also honors Mexico, Chile, and five Central American countries, who all celebrate their independence in September :Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Beginning in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson, the observation was extended by Congress twenty years later to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15.
