Fall into Research

This time in the Fall semester brings cool evenings, colorful falling leaves … and the opportunity to explore academic resources you may find useful for your class projects or personal interests. Your Campus Library team continually updates the IU East LGBTQ resource guide, and in the Fall we feature National Coming Out Day, as well as other celebrations and events. Members of the LBGTQ+ community are supported at IU East through the new affinity group, “LGBTQ+ Connections.” In the resource guide you will find information relevant to youth, educators, and families, along with campus and community information about organizations and open access material. How to Master Research

How to Master Research

You can become a research expert and the librarians at the IU East Campus Library are here to help! Doing library research may seem quite complex at first.  How do you distinguish what the scholarly sources are, and where to find them?  What about ‘primary’ sources?  The interface of a library research database can look more complicated than you are used to.  However, in order to get better information for academic work, you need better tools.  You need to know where to look, how to choose the words you will search with, what syntax to use, how to exclude information you don’t want, and how to critically evaluate what you get back. The library has created a multidisciplinary guide to … Continued

Image Research

Looking for images and not sure what research tools can help you find them? Images may not be as easily discoverable since many tools designed for searching text use metadata (the tags or descriptions or other keywords on a webpage) which may not adequately describe the image content you need. Whatever your reasons for an image search, such as a larger resolution version, learning about its provenance, or determining the copyright holder so you can legally and ethically use it, we have some tips to help you in the image search process! You can try ‘Reverse’ image searching, sometimes called content-based image retrieval. Instead of searching by typing in what you want to find, you upload a picture you already … Continued
Student Research Day – a celebration of scholarship and creativity

Student Research Day – a celebration of scholarship and creativity

All IU East students, in every discipline, are invited to participate in Student Research Day, where we recognize the research, scholarly and creative work of our student scholars.  Whether it’s writing a play, designing an experiment, discovering a fresh take on history or developing the next big idea, you have an opportunity to share that work with the entire IU East community on Friday, April 10, at Student Research Day. Online students as well as on-campus students can submit a proposal.  Student work that results from independent scholarship from courses, independent studies, summer research programs, Honor’s projects, and creative endeavors will be all featured. Participants may choose to present a poster or an oral presentation, to be judged by a … Continued
