A+ for 10 Years of Service-learning

Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that connects academic curriculum to community problem-solving. At IU East, the Center for Service Learning (CSL) provides dynamic opportunities for fulfilling the vision “to enrich the campus and community through educationally meaningful service that helps students become socially responsible citizens.” Service-learning aligns with the IU 2030 Strategic Plan, Pillar 3, “Service to Our State and Beyond” as well as the IU East Campus Strategic Plan, with the objective to increase impact within the community by facilitating and supporting connections among community partners, students, faculty, and staff.

Since 2013, the CSL has empowered students to grow personally and professionally. The CSL is located in the Campus Library, with Coordinator of Service Learning Ann Tobin supervising daily operations, facilitating student placements in the community, and coordinating grants and other programs that provide tutoring to local youth, from elementary through high school. In the CSL resource guide and on social media Ann features accomplishments of service-learning students and the positive impact they have in our community. We celebrate ten years of past and current service students and programs and share some highlights here.
