The library’s interlibrary loan system, ILLiad is getting a major upgrade. We are changing to a new, online platform, ILLiad 2.0. ILLiad 2.0 will have a brand new user interface that will be easier to place requests, access and manage your requests, and update your account details or communication preferences. The overall process, on the library’s end, will be much more streamlined as well. We hope that this new system will make your interlibrary loan service much more enjoyable. For instance, there will be an option to renew online, through your login, so you no longer have to contact the ILL specialist to renew for you. The IU East Campus Library acts not only as a resource for IU East students, but also for the community that the campus serves. This year, the library partnered in several K-12 programs, the largest of which was the Early College 8th Grade Diversity project. Every year, the IU East Campus Library, as part of its commitment to the Early College program, assists 8th grade students at Hibberd Intermediate School in Richmond, Indiana on a yearlong diversity-oriented research project. This year, the class focused on community development through a civic planning project. Celebrate Student Scholarly Work at IU East

Student Research Day (SRD) is a tradition at Indiana University East and it began as the culmination of the SUMRS (Summer Research Scholars Program) for undergraduates. After the research was completed the students presented their scholarly research findings at a meeting. Over the years the meeting expanded to an event each spring with the SUMRS scholars and additional students sharing findings and results from their research and creative activities. The range of activities for SRD includes oral presentations, poster presentations, 3-minute presentations, and distance presentations. At SRD 2017 on March 31st, the promotional issue of the Journal of Student Research at Indiana University East was shared with presenters and attendees. The end of another school year will soon be upon us! Some of you might have a few classes scheduled for summer school. But for many, these months are ones of complete academic freedom. Lethargy can be an enemy, though. Studies have shown that learning is lost over the long break (particularly in the sciences), wasting time at the beginning of a semester re-learning content. And while these effects are documented far more on the K-12 level, the risks are real at the collegiate level, too. Of course, the summer break gives you time for trips or experiences that would be impossible during the normal school year. And taking those opportunities is something to be encouraged. Most recently we have been able to interview Denice Honaker, David Markley, Kara Bellew, Doris Phelps, Kimberly Schwartzel, Kraig Rose, and Rachel Rose.
