“Ticket to Reading Adventures” was the theme of Third Grade Academy 2018 and we certainly enjoyed an array of learning experiences! Mornings focused on reading, and afternoons included special activities presented by IU East faculty, staff and students. We have enjoyed welcoming third graders to campus for more than ten years, with the Campus Library hosting classes each year since 2010. The program promotes reading improvement and is part of the Every Child Can Read initiative in Wayne County. Thank you to the many individuals who helped make TGA 2018 a success! Engaged Students: highlights of recent IU East graduates’ service accomplishments

The Center for Service-Learning, housed in the Campus Library, connects IU East students with service opportunities in communities throughout East Central Indiana and bordering towns in Ohio. Ann Tobin is campus/community liaison for service-learning. She is also staff advisor for the Circle K International Club (CKI), affiliated with the Kiwanis. Student researchers’ special projects for Summer 2018

The IU East Campus Library is host to two students immersed in two different, and very interesting, research topics. An art tradition for forty years: The Whitewater Valley Art Competition Brittany Yoder, a Junior Communications major, was selected as an IU Bicentennial intern for summer 2018, to work on a “Connecting Campus and Community through Art” project. This internship is hosted by the IU Office of the Bicentennial. Under the supervision of IU East Archivist Beth South, Brittany will document the history of ways in which the campus engages with the community through art outreach. The project will be housed in an Omeka presentation site, within the “Arts in Culture” theme. Selective content highlights will also be integrated into the … Continued

Chances are, your summer will include books. From ‘beach’ literature to just catching up on a favorite author you didn’t have time for during the semester, immersing yourself in a good book is a time-tested use of your summer or vacation. Normally, you might think of the college library as being a place for academic literature – not exactly the kind of books you’d pack for a vacation.
