May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the theme this year is ‘Look Around, Look Within’.  ‘Around’ includes the environment – neighborhood, social circle, family, and workplace – while ‘within’ refers both to introspection, and to a candid appraisal of one’s personal risk factors like genetic makeup.  These influences work together to help or hurt one’s mental well-being.  About one in five Americans deals with mental health issues at some point in their life, and the last few years have offered unprecedented stress on all segments of society, exacerbating the problem. New Canvas Library Tool Available – ProQuest Resources

The IU East Campus Library is now offering a new tool to embed journal articles and other resources directly into Canvas from our database search engine, ProQuest Central. This is a similar tool to the Library Resources application that we launched in Fall of 2022, which allows faculty to search and embed articles from EBSCO Discovery directly into Canvas from the Module level. Faculty can now search and pull article links that are available from our ProQuest databases, for which we subscribe to over 80, into their Canvas course! Every April since 1996, the US has celebrated National Poetry Month.  While the Academy of American Poets has developed a 30-day list of activities, the IU East Campus Library has resources and databases to help students, staff and faculty observe year ‘round.  To kick things off this year, the Library is hosting a drop-in poetry activity on Thursday, April 13 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Films can be a useful resource for a variety of research. Several of the IU East Campus Library databases provide videos for educational purposes. Be sure to “Like” the IU East Campus Library Facebook page for weekly features of unique resources such as the following highlights which can all be located via our A-Z Index. Explore Education in Videos for reliable resources of more than 1,650 hours of videos that provide the opportunity to observe behaviors that define effective teaching styles. Included are demonstrations, lectures, documentaries, and primary-source footage of students and teachers in actual classrooms. March 25th is Earth Hour, a global program sponsored by World Wildlife Fund for Nature to help the environment.  The challenge is simple – give one hour of your time for the planet.  You can spend the sixty minutes doing anything positive for the environment – pick up trash, plant a tree, or turn off all your lights and electric devices.  It is a good time to be thoughtful and intentional about ecological problems and their solutions.  Earth Hour offers a number of teaching and learning tools on their website, as well.
