The April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse has generated a lot of interest in all aspects of Space. The IU East Campus Library has created a resource guide featuring the IU East interactive Solar Walk, numerous facts about the Solar System, and books and activities for youth and adults to learn together. Additionally, we received funding from the Indiana University Foundation that enabled us to create a customized activity book. It is available for 100 individuals who participate in the Solar Walk at IU East, in Whitewater Hall on April 4th or 5th. Reservations are needed to ensure each tour group is not too large. Health, Hope, and Healing through Community

The IU East Campus Library, in partnership with the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), is hosting physician and author Dr William Cooke, for a health literacy event on Monday March 25th. Dr. Cooke’s book, Canary in the Coal Mine, addresses issues such as how socioeconomic and racial disparities impact the health of people, how one’s life purpose can change, needle exchange programs, and dealing with public health crises. The author presentation begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Q & A dialogue with the author at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome for this free event, but registration is requested to ensure seating is available. The Campus Library and the Center for Faculty Development have collaborated once again to offer the Course Material Transformation Fellowship for 2023-2024. This fellowship supports instructors in their efforts to adopt and create affordable course materials, including open educational resources (OER), library licensed content, and open access materials. The Fellowship Program aims to: Lower the cost of college for students in order to contribute to their retention, progression, and graduation. Encourage the development of alternatives to high-cost textbooks by supporting the adoption, adaptation, and creation of Open Educational Resources (OER) Make course material access on the first day of class a reality for all students, regardless of socioeconomic status. This summer, the Campus Library is celebrating more than a decade of collaboration with Every Child Can Read, for The Reading Academy (TRA) program (formerly Third Grade Academy). We invite IU East students, faculty and staff to be involved assisting with fun learning activities throughout June. Even 30 minutes would be a great help. Youth will be on campus 8 am – 2 pm Monday through Friday for reading enrichment with certified teachers, and we provide special projects, such as arts, culture, games, health, science, and writing. Since 2009, IU East has been a site for 20-30 students in grade three, with the Campus Library hosting daily activities. That continued until last year, when TRA came together at IU East … Continued

IU East offers many resources through Career Services for building job hunting, résumé, and interviewing skills.  These include tutorials and web resources, and special events, one of which will be offered, in partnership with Athletics, on Wednesday, January 25th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Student Events Center (on the Lingle Court).  In this Mock Interview session, all students are invited to practice interviewing skills in a safe, low-stakes environment with helpful IU East staff.  You can learn more and register here.
