“Ticket to Reading Adventures” was the theme of Third Grade Academy 2018 and we certainly enjoyed an array of learning experiences! Mornings focused on reading, and afternoons included special activities presented by IU East faculty, staff and students. We have enjoyed welcoming third graders to campus for more than ten years, with the Campus Library hosting classes each year since 2010. The program promotes reading improvement and is part of the Every Child Can Read initiative in Wayne County. Thank you to the many individuals who helped make TGA 2018 a success! “Embrace your voice” is the theme for the 2018 Sexual Assault Awareness Month. One of the ways to amplify voices is to teach youth about body (aka bodily) autonomy. Body autonomy is the concept that an individual “owns” one’s body. Teaching children about body autonomy can help them understand the importance of consent in everything related to their own body. Women of distinction: remarkable in works and invincible in character

Every day, new collections of historical treasures are transformed from print or microform versions to digital formats, thanks to technology and the expertise of library staff. They become shared treasures available publicly via online library and museum collections. The New York Public Library Digital Collections has recently added images of African American women who were featured in the 1893 book by Josephine Turpin Washington, Women of distinction: remarkable in works and invincible in character.
