More than 300 non-fiction youth books are being added to the IU East Campus Library collection, thanks to the generosity of the Indiana University Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Council. The Family R.E.A.D. program is designed to Read, Explore, Ask, and Discover a variety of ideas, perspectives and content available through a wide range of books. Saturday, September 14, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the IU East Campus Library, families can participate in discovery centers that feature the themes of going to college, healthy eating and fitness, and Hispanic Heritage. IU East students, faculty and staff will be hosting fun learning stations that include games, dancing, food, crafts and more. The IU East Campus Library acts not only as a resource for IU East students, but also for the community that the campus serves. This year, the library partnered in several K-12 programs, the largest of which was the Early College 8th Grade Diversity project. Every year, the IU East Campus Library, as part of its commitment to the Early College program, assists 8th grade students at Hibberd Intermediate School in Richmond, Indiana on a yearlong diversity-oriented research project. This year, the class focused on community development through a civic planning project. 2nd annual Read Out to celebrate IU Day!

Red Wolves Read again! The IU East Community Read Out will be on Wednesday, April 19, in celebration of IU Day. This all-day, anytime event gives alumni, students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to share a love of reading and IU pride. This year, the first 250 people who register to read will receive a free Read Out t-shirt. To pledge to read 15 minutes or more on April 19, simply complete this easy form: http://iue.libsurveys.com/IU-East-Community-Read-Out After you register, you can pick up your t-shirt at the Campus Library. Last year, 200 registered participants read to 2759 people, including students, families and colleagues. They read in classes, meetings, parks, and more. Celebrating Indiana University, education, and reading were the goals of the “Red Wolves Read Out” hosted by the IU East Campus Library for the first IU Day on April 12, 2016. We accomplished those goals with the participation of more than 300 adult readers and 400 youth readers, and more than 4000 listeners. “Read aloud for 15 minutes to anyone, anywhere, on IU Day!” The idea is simple: read aloud to anyone, anywhere, on IU Day. The response of readers was amazing, and we had participation in every school in Wayne County, and several businesses and community groups, with readers who are IU East students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members.
