The IU East Campus Library is here to support students in pursuit of academic success and faculty engaged in teaching and research. We provide databases and ebooks that can assist both students and faculty with their research. Inspired by the faculty who will be presenting at the 2nd Annual Faculty Scholarship Celebration on Friday, March 22nd  we wanted to share selected databases available through the library, that support these topics. Sunday was Constitution Day (sometimes called Citizenship Day), marking the anniversary in 1787, when 39 delegates in Independence Hall in Philadelphia signed the Constitution, bringing our form of representative democracy into being. It’s worth noting that, while our founders described the equality of “we the people” as being “self-evident”, in 1787 it was actually an open question. No similar government had ever yet succeeded. But because ours did, it has become a model for all similar governments founded since. Studying this historic document is a privilege of citizenship, and IU East is offering plenty of opportunities for doing just that. The summer is a great time to catch up or experience an interesting course that can otherwise be hard to fit into your schedule. The compressed time frame allows you to make a lot of progress quickly, whether you’re in the full twelve week session, or one of the intensive six week sessions. But it’s no walk in the park! Summer courses are every bit as rigorous as their equivalents in the fall and spring, with just as much work to do. The first summer session ends on June 27th. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to rededicate ourselves to protecting all members of our community. This year, the focus is on the ways individuals and communities can take action to promote safety, respect, and equality. IU East is holding events all month – programs include the Clothesline Project from 11-1 each day this week, where students are encouraged to write a message regarding sexual assault awareness. Also this week, on Wednesday from 12-4, Operation Street Smart will provide information on narcotics, including trends, terminology, concealment techniques, and their physiological effects. Later in the month, IU East will offer many events such as Step Up Training and self-defense classes, as well as a Take Back the Night vigil … Continued
