Ann Tobin: Campus/Community Liaison for the Center for Service-Learning (CSL)

Throughout the 2018-19 academic year, we’ll be celebrating the many individuals in the Campus Library and Center for Service-Learning who do so much to contribute to student success and create an inclusive and welcoming experience for all students. This week’s blog features Ann Tobin, our campus/community liaison for the Center for Service-Learning. Ann creates community connections by engaging IU East students in service for course requirements, work study, career exploration, volunteerism, special projects, tutoring/mentoring, graduate school applications, and personal enrichment. She explains, “It’s all about relationships –those with the community partners and with the IU East students.” Answering needs of community organizations is a top priority, and many partners contact CSL with a need for service students. Appreciation for Student Staff

Appreciation for Student Staff

“Healthy IU” is a program that promotes wellness of faculty and staff. Recently they featured a “Common Good” project, to enhance our community of caring. Activities included the practice of gratitude. As we reflect on what we are grateful for at work, one of the first that comes to mind is student staff. Here at the IU East Campus Library we are fortunate to have exceptional students who work well to ensure we provide excellent service. They also work on a variety of special projects, from oral histories to research to academic enrichment programs. We appreciate each of our Fall 2017 student staff and want you to meet them! Long is the road we have already traveled

Long is the road we have already traveled

“Once in a while it is good to look back and see just how long is the road we have already traveled.” ~ Dr. Frederick Grohsmeyer (November 5, 1973) On Saturday, July 21, 2012 IU East lost its first director, Dr. Frederick Grohsmeyer, a man who helped to establish Indiana University East.  Thanks to the memories of those who knew Dr. Grohsmeyer and to records documenting the influential life he led, his memory will not fade.  Fortunately we have some of those records in the Indiana University East Archives. Indiana University East began as the Eastern Indiana Center located at Earlham College.  Frederick Grohsmeyer was the Director of the Eastern Indiana Center, and in 1969, he began work to help … Continued
