The Art Club at Indiana University East is holding its first Student Art Sale now through April 24. The sale includes paintings of various media and scale, drawings, and glazed functional ceramic ware.

All current students at IU East were eligible to bring in art work to sell. The student sale is unique in that unlike other art shows and exhibitions on campus, the students are in charge of making the sale happen from recruiting, pricing, installing and displaying the work. IU East Art Club co-presidents, Eric Hall and Sarah Miller, organized the Student Art Sale.

“A student run art sale can be very beneficial to students who are interested in how to sell their art work. It helps people on how to price their work. As for the Art Club, it really helps us bring in some extra funding for future events, and we get to experience how to set up a sale by ourselves,” Miller said.

Hall said, “The student art sale also gives the community a sense of what art is being created locally. Richmond is known for its roots in music, so bringing the arts into the community is exciting.”

The public is welcome to visit the Student Art Sale at IU East Room 912, located at 912 E. Main Street, in Richmond, Ind., from 9 a.m.to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Payments are by arrangement with the student-artist.

Ann Kim, assistant professor of fine arts, said the inaugural Student Art Sale is a great opportunity for the community to see what the students are making and creating on and off campus.

“We have some incredibly talented students, and there is bound to be something for everyone at the sale. It is also an invaluable experience for the students as they are learning entrepreneurial skills through organizing and promoting the sale, skills that are essential to be successful in any creative field,” Kim said.
