IU East students to exhibit artwork, research from Argentina study abroad trip

RICHMOND, Ind. – Indiana University East students who studied abroad in Argentina this past May as part of a civilization and culture online course will exhibit their projects at the university’s Room 912, located at 912 E. Main Street in Richmond, Ind. The exhibit will be on display from September 13 to October 15 as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. Twelve students visited cities including metropolitan Buenos Aires and went horseback riding on a gaucho farm. The students toured the subtropical rain forest of Iguazú. All students completed a research project while there, May 17-24. Hispanic Heritage Month

The Indiana University East Hispanicampus Virtual Gallery highlights World Language & Culture’s student work and projects during Hispanic Heritage Month. Field trips for service learning, guest speakers, Day of the Dead altars, student projects and more will fill this album. Kara Beatty, a social work major, Hispanic Studies certificate candidate, and current student of SPA 200, designed a water project over issues of water in the U.S. as they relate to Hispanics.

Julien Simon, Associate Professor of World Languages and Cultures, will present “The Emergence of Mind in Early Modern Spanish Literature: A Diachronic Analysis of Human Intentionality and the Portrayal of Literary Characters in Three Spanish Golden Age Masterpieces,” on Wednesday April 24, 2013 01:00 PM in Hayes Hall 275. The presentation is free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, March 5, 2013, from 2:00-3:30PM in the Community Room of Whitewater Hall on the Indiana University East Campus, there will be a presentation by Daron Olson and Julien J. Simon. Assistant Professor, Olson will be discussing his book, Vikings Across the Atlantic, while Associate Professor, Julien Simon will discuss his role as co-editor (along with Isabel Jaén) of his recent book Cognitive Literary Studies: Current Themes and New Directions. A book signing will follow. Faculty, Staff, and Students of IU East as well as friends or family members and community members are welcomed. Hope to see you there.
