IU East, RAM to host first Cork and Canvas April 18

Richmond, Ind. – Indiana University East and the Richmond Art Museum invites the community to participate in “Cork and Canvas” from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014. The inaugural “Cork and Canvas” will be held at IU East’s Room 912, located at 912 E. Main Street, Richmond, Ind. The cost is $35 and includes art supplies. Wine may be purchased at the event. Participants must be age 21 and over. Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition accepting entries Sept. 23-27

Indiana University East is accepting art entries September 23-27 for the 2013 Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition (WVAAC). The competition will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, in Whitewater Hall. Prior to the judging, there will be a juror presentation at 11:30 a.m. in Tom Raper Hall, room 124. The top ten entries will receive a monetary award. Artists with accepted entries will be notified by Monday, October 14.This year’s competition will be juried by Buzz Spector, an artist whose artwork has been shown in such museums and galleries as the Art Institute of Chicago, Los Angeles County Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. IU East to establish downtown Richmond art gallery

Indiana University East will take possession of 912 E. Main, located in downtown Richmond, on July 1, 2013. The space will house an art gallery, individual studios for faculty and students, and a classroom. It is slated to open to the public late fall semester 2013. Planning for this space has been underway for more than a year under the direction of Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Katherine Frank. Part of the mission of IU East as a regional, public institution is to contribute to the cultural and economic development of the communities it serves. IU East’s WVAAC Top Ten, Purchase award recipients

Indiana University East Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition Top Ten Award and Purchase Award recipients have their work on display now through December 7 in The Gallery and Meijer Artway, located in Whitewater Hall. This year’s competition was juried by Barbara Tannenbaum, Curator of Photography at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The competition accepts entries from artists throughout a 300-mile radius around Richmond. The WVAAC would not be possible without the generous support of its donors. Entries now accepted for the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition

Indiana University East is accepting art entries through October 5 for the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition. The competition will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, in Whitewater Hall. Prior to the judging, there will be a juror presentation at 11:30 a.m. in Tom Raper Hall, room 124. This year’s competition will be juried by Barbara Tannenbaum, Curator of Photography at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Tannenbaum recently organized a groundbreaking exhibition on print-on-demand photo books.
