IU East announces Wine to Water as this year’s book for “One Book, Many Voices” project

Indiana University East will celebrate the second year of the “One Book, Many Voices” project when classes begin in August 2013. The project mission is to foster a campus and community discussion about themes and ideas inspired by a common text in an effort to develop camaraderie, inform knowledge, and inspire action towards positive civic engagement and improvement. The featured book is Wine to Water, by Doc Hendley. Just as the subtitle indicates, the book is about “how one man saved himself while trying to save the world.” A bartender from North Carolina, Hendley became aware of the global water crisis and decided that he needed to and could do something about it. Richmond is ‘a beautiful place to call home’ — India Cruse-Griffin creates community art for Positive Place and ‘One Book’ projects

Inside IU, October 24, 2012 Richmond-based artist India Cruse-Griffin is overseeing the creation of a public art piece for the Positive Place Initiative and IU East’s “One Book, Many Voices” project. Applying her characteristic mixed-media style, Cruse-Griffin will use layers, textures, patterns, color and paint to create a collage reflective of collective childhood memories and a shared story of places and events within the Richmond community.

Some stories made people cry. Other stories made them laugh. Hearing the voices of people whose stories had been recorded by StoryCorps touched the emotions of those who packed Indiana University East’s Vivian Auditorium on Tuesday to hear National Public Radio StoryCorps founder Dave Isay. “Listening,” Isay said, “shows there’s much more we share in common than divides us.” Isay appeared as part of the university’s “One Book, Many Voices” project. Free tickets available for Dave Isay visit

Award-winning producer, acclaimed author and editor, and founder of the StoryCorps Project, Dave Isay, will speak at IU East on Tuesday, October 16, as part of the “One Book, Many Voices” project. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 6 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium. The free tickets for Vivian Auditorium have all been taken but tickets for the overflow section are still available at the Office of the Bursar in Whitewater Hall.
