IU East’s WVAAC Top Ten, Purchase award recipients

Indiana University East Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition Top Ten Award and Purchase Award recipients have their work on display now through December 7 in The Gallery and Meijer Artway, located in Whitewater Hall. This year’s competition was juried by Barbara Tannenbaum, Curator of Photography at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The competition accepts entries from artists throughout a 300-mile radius around Richmond. The WVAAC would not be possible without the generous support of its donors. Entries for IU East’s High School Speech Tournament due November 26

The Indiana University East Annual High School Speech Tournament will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, in Whitewater Hall. Registration is from 7:15-8 a.m. and the tournament will end by 3:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The speech tournament is presented by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and is sponsored by Summersault. The tournament will include high school students from surrounding counties. Students will present various speeches in 15 different categories including broadcasting, congress declamation, discussion, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, impromptu, international extemporaneous, memorized duo, original oratory, original performance, poetry interpretation, prose interpretation, scripted duo, and U.S. Extemporaneous. Harper is guest on radio show to discuss 1968 explosion following Indianapolis tragedy

Jean Harper, associate professor of English, will be a guest on the “Afternoon Show” on WIBC 93.1 FM in Indianapolis. Harper will talk about the 1968 Richmond explosion in relation to the gas explosion in this past weekend on the Southeast side of Indianapolis. The “Afternoon Show” is on the air from 4-7 p.m. Additionally, Harper was recently awarded The Florida Review Editors Award for her essay, “Colic.” The essay is a chapter from her book manuscript, Horses and Divorces. Harper’s essay will be published in the Winter 2012 issue of The Florida Review, making this the third chapter from the book to have been accepted for publication in 2012.
