Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and although society is becoming more open to discussing mental health, it can still be challenging to know where to begin when it comes to taking care of your own mental well-being. Several national groups and government organizations provide resources for all your mental health needs. Mental Health America offers a downloadable toolkit with information, posters, and DIY tools. The National Institutes of Health explores topics such as anxiety disorder, borderline personality disorder, and suicide prevention, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration provides direct support for those suffering from mental illness.

Online counseling sessions are available for all students via Timely Care. IU East students also have access to Chat with a Counselor via Director of Behavioral Health Jennifer Claypoole. Students can stop by Whitewater Hall 116A, schedule an appointment online, or call 765-973-8646 to make an appointment. Employees can get help through the SupportLinc Employee Assistance Program

The library provides several reliable resources to support mental well-being. Databases such as PsychInfo, Proquest Psychology, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection and MEDLINE with Full Text offer valuable resources to support mental health research. Additionally, view our collection of mental health books including: Supporting Success for LGBTQ+ Students by Cindy Kilgro, Mind over Monsters: Supporting Youth Mental Health with Compassionate Challenge by Sarah Cavanagh, Global Mental Health: Latin America and Spanish-Speaking Populations by Javier Escobar, Super-Women : Superhero Therapy for Women Battling Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma by Janina Scarlet, and You’ve Got This : A Student’s Guide to Well-being at University and Beyond by Rachael Alexander.
