“Let’s Talk” Series to focus on cancer

The “Let’s Talk” series returns with discussions focused on the current topics and concerns on cancer. “Let’s Talk” will be broadcast live from 7-8 p.m. on WETV Channel 20 on Tuesday, February 21, and Tuesday, March 7. Each episode the panelists will discuss background information, statistics and the prevalence of cancer in Richmond and Wayne County. Panelists will also provide a general overview and understanding of cancer as well as first steps to prevention, screenings, and community resources for information and help. The discussion will be led by moderator Ange Cooksey, M.A., senior lecturer in Humanities at IU East. “Let’s Talk” is an interactive forum for students, faculty, and members of the community. Histories and Memories national juried exhibit awards announced

Indiana University East Fine Arts program is hosting its third national juried exhibition, themed “Histories and Memories,” with the support of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Mindful Explorations. The exhibit is open now through March 3 in the Tom Thomas Gallery, located in Whitewater Hall and online at http://www.iue.edu/gallery/nje/memories/. Joshua Hagler Awards were announced during a reception on January 26. The “Histories and Memories” exhibit includes the 36 works by 28 artists from 19 states chosen by juror Joshua Hagler. The exhibit received over 500 entries from across the country. The exhibit is compiled of diverse media and styles of works. Prior to the Award Ceremony, Hagler presented a lecture. IU East’s Political Science program ranked in 25 by Top Online Colleges

Indiana University East’s Political Science online program is listed in the top 20 of the 2017 Top Online Colleges for Political Science Degrees list. Top Online Colleges ranked colleges and universities by program based on academic strength and tuition rates. Assistant Professor of Political Science Chera LaForge said students completing the political science program at IU East can take a variety of courses online, regardless of where their interests lie. “We offer electives in American politics, comparative politics, international relations, and political theory. Students gain a broad understanding of politics both in the US and abroad. The ranking comes from Best Value Schools. To be considered, each school must enroll at least 15 percent of its student body in some or all distance education coursework. IU East announces 2017 Legislative Forums

Indiana University East will host Legislative Forums from 8-9 a.m. on Friday, January 27, Friday, February 24, and Friday, March 31, in the Springwood Hall Graf Center. The forums are free and open to the public. The forums are an opportunity for the community to have an in-person discussion with Senator Jeff Raatz and Representative Dick Hamm. Each elected official will give opening remarks on the 2017 session of the Indiana General Assembly and any legislation of interest. The forum will then be opened for a question-and-answer period with the audience, moderated by Ross Alexander, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
