IU East presents diploma to Alla Kudryavtseva

Indiana University East presented Alla Kudryavtseva with her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies degree on Tuesday, December 13, at the Student Events and Activities Center. She is one of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) players enrolled at IU East through an educational agreement between the campus and the women’s professional tennis organization. Kudryavtseva was presented with her diploma by Executive Vice Chancellor Michelle Malott and School of Humanities and Social Sciences Dean Ross Alexander. She is a December 2016 graduate and completed her last online class during finals week, December 6-12. Empty Bowls proceeds donated

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is happy to announce that the Empty Bowls event was able to raise $2547 for the Gleaner’s BackSacks Program!  This amount will be able to feed approximately 13 children every weekend for an entire school year. Below is Student Coordinator, Whitney Reeves giving the proceeds to Kahty Hahn Keiner, Chief Programs & Agency Relations Officer for Gleaners. IU East’s Empty Bowls event to raise awareness of hunger is Oct. 25

The community is invited to Empty Bowls from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, in the Whitewater Hall Lobby. This year, the Empty Bowls luncheon is being held in coordination with Indiana University East’s “One Book, Many Voices” project. Students glaze bowls during the March 2016 Glaze-A-Thon. This year’s event will be held October 21 before the Empty Bowls luncheon on Oct. 25. Guests are invited to select a bowl, made by IU East ceramics students and community potters, and have it filled with soup and bread. Area restaurants including The Den at IU East, Gulzar’s Indian Cuisine, Hometown Dining Company, and Reid Health’s Cafe at Twelve Hundred will contribute soups for the event. There is a … Continued

IU East’s Regional Writers Series presents poet David Baker

David Baker The Indiana University East School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) will present the Regional Writers Series: An Evening with Poet David Baker, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, in the Whitewater Hall Community Room. The event is free and open to the public. Baker is author of 11 books of poetry, most recently Scavenger Loop and Never-Ending Birds, which won the Theodore Roethke Memorial Poetry Prize in 2011. His five books of prose include Show Me Your Environment: Essays on Poetry, Poets, and Poems and Radiant Lyre: Essays on Lyric Poetry. Professor Emeritus inducted into Presidents Circle

Richmond, Ind. –Indiana University East Professor Emeritus of History George Blakey was inducted into the Indiana University Presidents Circle during a special ceremony held September 30 in Bloomington. IU inducted 246 individuals into its most prestigious donor recognition society, the Presidents Circle, which honors individuals whose lifetime giving to IU has reached $100,000. IU President Michael A. McRobbie and IU Foundation President Dan Smith presided over the ceremony. George Blakey, professor emeritus, was inducted into the Presidents Circle Sept. 30. The prestigious honor recognizes individuals for a lifetime of giving to Indiana University. IU East Chancellor Kathy Cruz-Uribe also attended the luncheon.
