Professor Emeritus inducted into Presidents Circle

Richmond, Ind. –Indiana University East Professor Emeritus of History George Blakey was inducted into the Indiana University Presidents Circle during a special ceremony held September 30 in Bloomington. IU inducted 246 individuals into its most prestigious donor recognition society, the Presidents Circle, which honors individuals whose lifetime giving to IU has reached $100,000. IU President Michael A. McRobbie and IU Foundation President Dan Smith presided over the ceremony. George Blakey, professor emeritus, was inducted into the Presidents Circle Sept. 30. IU East students celebrate support at Spirit of Philanthropy

Indiana University East students welcomed community supporters to campus in appreciation of their contributions toward internships, leadership experiences and community service opportunities. Guests were invited to the Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon held September 16 at the Student Events and Activities Center on campus. The student-led event raises funds for scholarships and other community involvement activities that provide important experiential learning opportunities for students. Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe welcomed guests to the luncheon and introduced the featured speakers for the Showcase of Student Success. Students share their experiences and accomplishments during the luncheon. School of Business and Economics Brandon Smit, assistant professor of business administration and management, received his Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, his Master of Science in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Saint Louis University. Brandon Smit Previously, Smit was an instructor with the Department of Psychological Sciences at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. As a graduate student, Smit received a Best Paper Award in the Human Resources Division from the Academy of Management. IU East Red Wolves garner one gold, two silver medals at the Olympics

Three Red Wolves received Summer 2016 Olympic medals in Rio de Janeiro over the weekend. Monica Puig won the first gold medal in any sport for Puerto Rico. Puig made Olympic history after she defeated Germany’s Angelique Kerber 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 on Saturday, August 13. Puig, a communications studies major, is enrolled in Indiana University East’s online degree completion program. For Team USA, IU East alumna Venus Williams and current online student, Rajeev Ram, won the silver medal in mixed doubles tennis on Sunday, August 14. Williams and Ram played against Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock, also on Team USA, in the mixed doubles tennis finals. Williams and Ram completed the match 6-7 (3), 6-1, 10-7.
