The U.S. education system is comprised of 12 years of primary and secondary education followed by 4 years of post-secondary, or undergraduate study-toward a bachelor's degree-before a student becomes eligible for graduate level study in a master's, doctoral, or professional program.

You are a transfer student if:

• You have attended a university or postsecondary institution after graduating from high school (secondary school)
• You have not received a bachelor's degree (first degree), or
• You wish to pursue a second bachelor's degree in a different discipline

Application Fee

The application fee is not refundable and is required of all applicants. We cannot accept cash.

Payment may be by:

• Major credit card (Visa or MasterCard) or
• Check or money order in U.S. funds, drawn on a U.S. bank.
  • Make the check payable to "Indiana University East."
  • Be sure that the check also has your full name written on it.

If you have difficulty getting U.S. currency to pay the fee, a friend or relative may pay it for you. Make sure that the check has your full name written on it so we can properly credit your payment.

Official Academic Records

You must submit official transcripts, including work already completed and work currently in progress. The records should show a complete list of courses taken, grades received and any diplomas or certificates earned. Transcripts should also indicate the number of credits awarded for each course or the number of hours of classroom, lecture, and laboratory and include information about the school's grading scale. (See Academic Records below for more info)

If the original documents are not in English, a verified translation must be sent with your official transcripts in your native language.

English Translations of Academic Records

Where high schools, colleges, and universities routinely issue transcripts in English, these documents are accepted as official; otherwise, official documents in the original language must be submitted. The following countries routinely issue many official educational records in English:

Other countries may also issue official educational documents in English on a more limited basis.

If your official academic records are not issued in English, you must submit an English translation along with your official documents in the original language. The accuracy of the translation must be certified by an appropriate officer at the issuing school, by an appropriate government officer at the ministry of education, or by a U.S. educational advising center. If you need assistance, the center in your country can advise you on preparing your academic records for submission.

English translations by themselves are not sufficient for an admission decision. You must submit the corresponding official academic records in the original language for comparison.

English Proficiency

If English is not your native language, you must demonstrate proficiency in English before you can be admitted to IU East.

To meet IU East's minimum standard for acceptance into online majors you may submit any one of the following as satisfactory proof of English proficiency.

• TOEFL core of 550+ (paper version/PBT) or 213+ (computer-based version/CBT) or a provisional minimum of 79+ (internet-based version/IBT).
• A grade of 6.0 or higher on the Cambridge International English Language Testing System (IELTS), http://www.ielts.org
• A score of 550 or higher on the SAT Critical Reading (prior to March 2015 test dates) or a score of 25 or higher in the ACT Reading portions. If you have taken the SAT in March 2015 or after please contact the Office of Admissions for a new equivalent.
• A score of 560 or higher on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing or a score of 21 or higher in the ACT English section.
• We will also accept a Duolingo English Test (DET) score of 100+.
• A bachelor's or higher degree from a country designated by East as predominantly native-English speaking.
• For residents of Japan, a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken.
• Applicants with citizenship from an approved English-speaking country meet the English Proficiency requirements.

To meet IU East's minimum standard for acceptance into on campus majors you may submit any one of the following as satisfactory proof of English proficiency.

• TOEFL score of 550+ (paper version/PBT) or 213+ (computer-based version/CBT) or a provisional minimum of 79+ (internet-based version/IBT).
• A grade of 6.0 or higher on the Cambridge International English Language Testing System (IELTS), https://www.ielts.org
• A score of 550 or higher on the SAT Critical Reading (prior to March 2015 test dates) or a score of 25 or higher in the ACT Reading portions. If you have taken the SAT in March 2015 or after please contact the Office of Admissions for a new equivalent.
• A score of 560 or higher on the SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing or a score of 21& or higher in the ACT English section.
• We will also accept a Duolingo English Test (DET) score of 100+.
• Successful completion of 26 or more credit hours with a US post-secondary institution, including the completion of a 100-level (or above) English composition class.
• For residents of Japan, a "Pre-First Grade" score on the STEP Eiken.
• Holding citizenship from or completing at least three full years of secondary school in an approved English-speaking country (defined below).

Academic Records

Academic records should show a complete list of courses taken, grades received and any diplomas or certificates earned. They should also indicate the number of credits awarded for each course or the number of hours of classroom, lecture, and laboratory and include information about the school’s grading scale. Records are considered official if the issuing institution sends them directly to IU East. Course work from one institution reported as transfer credit on another school’s transcript is not an official transcript.

If you are currently enrolled, submit current transcripts showing all work completed. Send final transcripts reflecting all work completed as soon as they become available.

When the issuing school will not send the transcripts directly to IU East you may send an unaltered photocopy, certified by an appropriate official, directly with your application. These documents must be issued on official stationery with an original ink stamp or raised seal and the original signature of the principal, registrar, or other officer. In cases where the local, state, or national government keeps educational records, the original signature of an appropriate officer and/or the raised seal or ink stamp of the appropriate agency will constitute official certification. Certification by a public notary is not acceptable. IU East may contact the issuing school or government agency to verify the authenticity of documents.

Credential evaluations completed by private agencies (i.e., Educational Credentials Evaluators, Inc. or Foundation for Educational Services) are not considered official transcripts or diploma substitutes.

Note: All documents submitted become the property of IU East. Hard copies are scanned and retained for three years, after which they will be destroyed.
