The last five days of each semester are set aside for final exams. It’s your responsibility to make sure you know when and where you’ll be taking your finals. Read on to find out everything you need to know about final exams.
It’s time to show what you’ve learned
If you have an exam conflict, talk to your instructor to discuss options.
If you miss a final exam, even if you have a passing grade in a course, you risk failing the course.
If you know you’re going to miss a final, or you miss one for reasons you didn’t expect, talk to your instructor as soon as possible. Your instructor is the one who will make the final decision on whether or not you can make arrangements to satisfy the course requirements.
When are final exams?
For on-campus classes in the Fall and Spring semesters (excluding first eight-week classes)
Final exams are administered during final exam week at the same time and place as your normally scheduled class, unless otherwise indicated by the instructor. The exam will be held on the first regularly scheduled day that falls within final exam week.
Class meeting day(s) & time(s) | Final exam day & time |
---|---|
Mondays & Wednesdays (MW), 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. | Wednesday, 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. |
Tuesdays & Thursdays (TR), 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. | Tuesday, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. |
Fridays (F), 5:30 - 8:15 p.m. | Friday, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. |
Mondays (M), 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. | Monday*, 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. * Note: this is the last day of final exam week. |
If an instructor deviates from this schedule, they will communicate this to their students well in advance of the final exam.
For summer, six-week, first eight-week, and other non-standard session classes
Finals will be held during the last class meeting. This is the case for all course sections that don’t meet during the last weeks of the Fall or Spring semesters.
For online classes
Exams for online courses are generally more flexible in their scheduling. Depending on the instructor's policy, program requirements, or school policies, you may be able to take your exam in Canvas at your leisure or you may be required to take a proctored exam (in a campus testing center or with a remote proctor) which requires scheduling.
Your instructor will inform you of these requirements and any conflicts should be addressed with your instructor as soon as possible.
