Learning a foreign language can offer many exciting professional opportunities, among them International Business, Law, Medicine, Teaching, Journalism, Social Work, Government, etc.
It also has the unquestionable benefit that you will learn more about your own language and culture.
Although learning a language can be work, the efforts pay off quickly when you finally get to use it. Whether you enjoy talking, reading, or mastering challenges, you'll find all of them in learning languages. So, why wait?
The department offers courses in French, German, and Spanish. The first two years (four courses) of each language are available if you need to fulfill a foreign language requirement or wish to continue the study of a foreign language begun in high school.
The first course in first year French, German, or Spanish (F100/G100/S100) has no prerequisites and may be taken by any student with an interest in learning another language. The department also offers the Certificate in Hispanic Studies and a minor in Spanish.
This program is part of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences.
A minimum of 36 credit hours must be taken at the 300 level or above, with at least 18 in the major. No course with a grade below a 2.0 (C) will be accepted in the major/concentration area.
