The Bachelor of Science in Human Life Science is a versatile degree that provides the student with extensive preparation for graduate or professional studies in any field that works with the science of the human organism. This program is particularly for students who wish to pursue future studies in the allied health professions such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician assistant, and similar programs.

Natural Science and Mathematics Core Requirements (18 cr)
Human Life Science Core (21)
Choose one of the concentrations in Human Biology, Medical Laboratory Science or Criminalistics and complete the associated concentration requirements.
Human Biology Core Requirements (19 cr)

This concentration is intended for students who wish to complete further studies in health-related fields, such as medical school, dentistry, or occupational therapy. Please consult with your advisor to select an appropriate combination of elective courses.
Students complete 22 credit hours in this category, of which at least 10 credit hours must be at the 300 level or above. Other courses may be approved by the Chair, Department of Natural Science. Carefully select these courses to meet the admissions requirements for prospective professional schools.
This concentration is offered in collaboration with Wright State University. You will complete three years of study at IU East, and then transfer to Wright State University and complete the Certificate in Medical Laboratory Sciences in your fourth year. The credits earned at Wright State will transfer back to IU East and be applied toward the B.S. in Human Life Science degree. Students who complete this program may sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification. Completing this degree option prepares you for a career as a lab technicians in the health care industry.
The following courses will be taken at Wright State University during the fourth year of studies in the program as part of Wright State University Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science program. After completion of this certificate program, credits will be transferred back to Indiana University East and will be applied to the B.S. in Human Life Science degree with Medical Laboratory Science concentration.
Completing this concentration prepares you for careers that require knowledge of techniques and principles of forensic science, from both natural science and social science perspectives. It may also prepare for admission into MS Forensic Science programs. Graduates with this concentration may also seek employment as forensic science technicians.
First-Year Seminar (0-2 cr)
A passing grade is required in the First Year Seminar course. This course is mandatory for all beginning freshmen and for transfer students with no more than 12 credit hours of transferring coursework. This course must be taken in the first semester after admission to Indiana University East.
