Applications for grants up to $5,000 are currently being accepted for:

Overseas Research Grants for faculty members to conduct research abroad.

IU Conference and Workshop Grants for faculty members who conduct conferences or workshops on international subjects at IU.

Language Learning Grants to support faculty members in undertaking intensive language programs in the US or abroad.

Applicants must be tenured or tenure-track IU faculty.

Funding Sources

  • Limited Submission
    Limited Submission requires an internal review and selection process for any funding opportunity that specifies limits to the number of pre-proposal or proposal submissions; the internal review is necessary in order to determine which proposal will represent the University in regional, national or international competitions. Before applying for an opportunity with limited submission requirements, applicants must follow the limited submission process to secure authorization from the Office of the Vice Provost for Research to submit on behalf of Indiana University. These limited submission opportunities will be announced via email notification to Deans of Schools within IU East.

    COS (formerly known as Community of Science) provides a database of funding opportunities, electronic funding alerts, and expertise searching capabilities.       COS Funding Alert is a personalized electronic notification service of funding information. COS Funding Alert subscribers receive a weekly e-mail with a customized list of funding opportunities based on previously specified criteria provided by the individual COS members.

  • Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
    The online Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance gives you access to a database of all Federal programs available to State and local governments (including the District of Columbia); federally -recognized Indian tribal governments; Territories (and possessions) of the United States; domestic public, quasi-public, and private profit and nonprofit organizations and institutions; specialized groups; and individuals. After you find the program you want, contact the office that administers the program and find out how to apply.

    The U.S. Department of Education administers about 200 grant programs. Descriptions of these programs, as well as applications and guidelines, can be found here.
  • Department of Energy e-Center
    The e-center is the Department of Energy's web site for information on doing business with the Department of Energy, including viewing current business opportunities, registering to submit proposals, and obtaining information and guidance on the acquisition and financial assistance award process.
  • FedBiz Opps is the single government point-of-entry for Federal government procurement opportunities over $25,000.

    Published by the Office of the Federal Register, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents.

    Use the Foundation Finder to search by name for basic information about foundations within the universe of more than 70,000 private and community foundations in the U.S.

  • GrantsNet
    Find funds for training in the sciences and undergraduate science education. This site is sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

    The State of Indiana, Department of Administration, Procurement Division, provides Solicitations including Invitation to Bid and Request for Proposals from this web site.
  • IRIS - Illinois Research Information Services
    The IRIS Database currently contains over 8,600 active federal and private funding opportunities in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. In addition to funding opportunities for faculty, the IRIS Database also contains fellowships and scholarships for grad students and undergrads. Users can search IRIS by sponsor, deadline date, keyword, and other criteria. Most IRIS records contain live links to sponsor Web sites, electronic forms, or Electronic Research Administration (eRA) portals. The IRIS Database is updated daily. IRIS is a fee-based service available on the Bloomington campus only.

    The NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts is the official publication for NIH medical and behavioral research grant policlies, guidelines and funding opportunities. This site allows you to search the NIH Guide for exact keyword(s) or phrase(s).
