Learn more about the:

Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)

The MCAT is required for all students entering Medical school, and has four main sections that are all multiple-choice questions:

  1. Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems
  2. Chemical and Physical Foundations of Living Systems
  3. Physchological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior
  4. Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills

The MCAT is taken by students in January, and March through September each year. By taking the test sooner, you will be able to apply earlier and start your program before fall admissions close. Therefore, enough time must be set aside for this exam, as well as the other steps required for application.

Dental Admission Test (DAT)

After completing the necessary coursework and before applying, you are required to take the DAT. Test must be taken eighteen months prior to being admitted by your preferred dental school program. This test is continuously administered throughout the year and consists of four main sections.

  • Quantitative Skills

Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is a standardized test that students take in preparation of graduate school. Most veterinary schools require GRE scores, and some may require the Biology GRE. Some schools also accept the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).

The GRE is approximately three hours and forty-five minutes long and consists of three parts:

  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Quantitative Reasoning
  • Analytical Writing

The GRE is offered throughout the year, and Pre-Vet students are encouraged to take the exam a year before applying to veterinary school, ideally in the winter or spring. However, you should ultimately take the GRE when you are ready!

While it varies from person to person, plan on studying between 50-200 hours before taking the test. For more information on the GRE visit:

Law School Admissions Test (LSAT)

The Law School Admissions Test is one of the most vital components of your law school application. The LSAT is a three and a half-hour, two-part exam that evaluated the skills of potential law students in these areas:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Analytical Reasoning
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Writing

When should I take the LSAT?

The LSAT is offered several times a year and dates vary. Ideally you should consider taking the LSAT a year before you would begin law school- no later than November. Be aware that the top-ranked law schools fill up fast, so taking the LSAT in January can put you at a disadvantage! Ultimately, it is important to take the test ween you are ready to! Be sure to prepare early!
