IU East’s Faculty Senate is our campus organization for faculty governance. All full-time academic appointees, including librarians, lecturers and clinical faculty, are eligible to be voting members. Visiting, part-time and emeritus faculty are welcome to attend senate meetings but cannot vote.
Faculty Senate typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month during Fall and Spring semesters, with some/occasional exceptions, to consider matters brought to it by the Agenda Committee as well as new business introduced by faculty members. The presiding officer is the Faculty Senate President, elected by faculty annually for a one-year term.
Tanya Perkins, Associate Professor of English, serves as the Senate President for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Senate Constitution sets out the responsibilities of this office. Senate Committees carry out the work of faculty governance. Committee members are elected on an annual basis.
