Tiani Christian's internship with the Richmond Jazz

Batter up!

The Richmond, Indiana, native graduated from Richmond High School in 2017.

Her connection to Richmond High School helped lead her to her four-month internship with the Richmond Jazz. Bridget Hazelbaker, the communications coordinator for Richmond Community Schools, tagged Christian to a Facebook post by the Richmond Jazz that the franchise was searching for interns to join their team.

She applied and received an interview with Deanna Beaman, general manager for the Richmond Jazz and president of the board of directors.

“Tiani came on board with us in a role that a lot of our interns take on to gain that general knowledge of being a part of a franchise, the daily business operations of that franchise and also a little bit of the perspective of the baseball operations side as well,” Beaman said. “Really just to give her a full look at what it is like to be in our industry, what some of the requirements are, and what your job would look like in a field of this nature.”

After she completes her four-year degree, Christian would like to find a job in business that she could use her communications background where she can put her coordination and management skills to use. Outside of classes, work with the Writing Center and her internship, Christian has done some marketing work for Stamper’s Wrecker Service, her fiancés’ family business, and she has owned an eBay shop.

“I’m thinking about owning my own business.” Christian said. “I’m thinking about online entrepreneurship options while I’m in school. I just like the idea of running my own schedule and running my own business. Definitely, communications has given me the insight to help with coordination of events and multidimensional communications with different people and deadlines involved. I love that kind of work because I feel like I do it really well.”
