Alexis Grundell is a freshman at IU East this fall. Grundell is enrolled in IU East’s online degree completion program and will major in psychology.

Grundell lives across the state in Clinton, Indiana. The small town known for the Little Italy Festival is located in Vermillion County.

“I am very excited to do online classes as the flexibility will help with my current living and work situations,” Grundell said. “I’ve wanted to be a counselor or therapist for many years, working especially with children and teenagers. I want to learn how to help the kids that might be going through similar things that I did growing up.”

Grundell graduated from South Vermillion High School in 2015. Originally, she had planned to attend Indiana University in Bloomington but missed the deadline. She enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Before moving to Clinton as a teenager, Grundell grew up just over the Indiana state line in Danville, Illinois. Danville is part of Vermillion County, which isn’t to be confused with Vermillion County, Indiana. Quick fun fact: Vermillion County, Illinois, and Vermillion County, Indiana, are two of the 22 counties of the same name to border each other in the United States.

While in high school, Grundell was a four-year member of choir, including advanced choir her junior and senior years. “I often sang the national anthem at sporting events,” she said.

Grundell was also in theater. She was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with academic honors.

Now at IU East Grundell is excited for the start of the semester and where her degree could take her in the future, including the possibility of going to graduate school.

“I am very, very excited to start my education at IU East this fall and meet the people that are going to help shape my future,” Grundell said.
