Faculty members receiving promotion and tenure announced

Indiana University East recommended the following faculty for promotion in rank, in recognition for their past achievements and their potential to carry out even greater accomplishments.

These faculty promotions are approved by Indiana University Board of Trustees, President Pamela Whitten and the IU East Interim Chancellor. The promotions are effective beginning July 1, 2023.

Feler Bose

Feler Bose received tenure and was promoted to professor of economics. Bose received his Ph.D. in Economics and a Master of Science in Economics from George Mason University. He received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Engineering Physics from Hope College.

Bose has research interests in the areas of political economy; law and economics; economics of religion; sexual freedom index; and addiction treatment.

Arkadiusz Mironko received tenure and was promoted to associate professor of management and entrepreneurship. Mironko received his Ph.D. in International Business and his Master of Science in Global Affairs from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Marketing from Felician College.

Mironko’s research interests include international business strategy; corporate knowledge for flow management; entrepreneurship; innovation in MNCs; foreign direct investment; economics in transition; and global virtual teams.

Margaret Thomas Evans

School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Margaret Thomas Evans promoted to professor of English. She earned her Ph.D. in Composition, Rhetoric and Technical Communication at Miami University. She received her Master of Arts in English from Wright State University and her Bachelor of Arts in Independent Studies from the University of Lancaster.

Evans’ research interests are leadership; managing online distance education programs; online teaching practices; and women, rhetoric and technology.

Jean Harper

Jean Harper promoted to professor of English. Harper is also the interim associate vice chancellor of Academic Affairs and interim director of Graduate Programs in English. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Emerson College and her Bachelor of Arts in English from Earlham College.

Stephanie Whitehead

Stephanie Whitehead promoted to professor of criminal justice. She is also the director of the Center for Faculty Development. Whitehead received her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from IU Bloomington. She received her Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University and her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Murray State University.

Harper’s creative interests include creative nonfiction; memoir; documentary work; comics; and collage.

Whitehead’s research interests include policing; race and racism; ethnographic methods; cultural criminology; and the cultural politics of emotions and crime.

Kelly Blewett

Kelly Blewett received tenure and was promoted to associate professor of English. She is also the director of the Writing Program. Blewett received her Ph.D. in English and Comparative Literature from the University of Cincinnati. She received her Master of Arts in English from the University of Louisville and her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Miami University.

Blewett’s research interests include composition theory and pedagogy; teacher feedback; and reading.

Carrie Mier

Carrie Mier received tenure and was promoted to associate professor of criminal justice. Mier joined IU East in fall 2017. She received her Ph.D. in Criminology and her Master of Science in Criminology from Florida State University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs and Criminal Justice with a Minor in Psychology from Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Her research interests include drug trends at national, state and local levels; community risk and resilience to substance issues; stigma; risk and protection to violence and victimization; and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (Experiential Learning/Service Learning/Study Abroad).

Ramesh Karki

School of Science and Mathematics
Ramesh Karki
received tenure and was promoted to associate professor of mathematics. Karki earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics and a Master of Arts from the University of Toledo.

Karki’s research interests include partial differential equations (including pseudo-differential equations); dynamical systems; and partial differential equations.
