Five IU East online students, alumna travel to 2016 Summer Olympic Games

Indiana University East is cheering on Red Wolves at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, August 5-21.

Five IU East online students and alumna, Venus Williams, traveled to the Olympics this year.

Williams received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2015. Williams finished in round one of women’s singles and women’s doubles tennis.

Today, Monica Puig, playing for Puerto Rico, is in round three of women’s singles tennis. The match begins at 11:30 a.m. She is a communications studies major.

Rajeev Ram is on the USA men’s doubles team. He finished in round two on Monday. Ram is pursuing his general studies degree.

Sloane Stephens is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in communications studies. She finished after round one of women’s tennis singles for Team USA.

On the Australia team, sisters Anastasia Rodionova and Arina Rodionova are doubles partners. Both are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The Rodionovas finished in round one.

IU East has educational agreements with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the ATP.

The online degree completion programs provide players the opportunity for the women to continue to professionally train and play while completing their bachelor’s degree online.
